The Half IronMan was quite an experience (90k Individual TT). I turned a 2:24:44 (23.2 mph ave) which was the 4th best bike time of 284 riders so I'll take it. Of course, I didn't have to swim 1.2 miles before or run a half marathon after so... |

I had the privilege to ride Lance back to the start of the Trek 100m(or Wreck 100 as it is know as here ) so he could ride with his son. We had thirty minutes to get from Wales back to WCTC. Not impossible, but we had to move. There was only Lance, Dan Wellman (photographer), Bart (Knaggs, partner of Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop http://www.mellowjohnnys.com) and myself. It was great to hammer with Lance. I got on the front and showed him my best stuff as he seemingly noddled along behind me. Lance would roll by me to take his turn on the front with caused me to get out of the saddle and jump to catch up to him. We made it back in time for his son's ride and Dan and I were still awe struck as he faded off into the crowd. |

At 35 minutes into the Masters 3/4 race in Sheboygan, Wisc yesterday, a group of 3 riders broke from the field, one of a number of attacks we had already seen so far in the race. Ricardo Otero, on Team Mack and the only Illinois rider in the race, saw the break occur and the immediate gathering of the related teams at the front to block for their teammates. Otero later said he just knew this one was going to stick. He jumped from the back of the field, making a bold move to solo bridge up to the break! The field did not respond to his attack! Now that was exciting to watch and cheer! The group of 4 soon became a group of 3 with one of the original 3 dropping back. Otero and the other 2 worked well together; the field appeared to have no real interest in catching the 3 leaders. It was soon clear that the winners were up the road! By two laps to go they had extended their lead to 25 seconds. The final sprint was head-to-head, with Otero taking second, just one-half wheel behind David Greenblatt on Brazed Dropouts. Congrats Ricardo on a very good move and your 2nd place! |

Ask me about this at the next race. |

This was the start of the 2008 John Fraser Memorial TT Jake Schilling finished 3rd in the under 15 5k group and finished 3rd over all in the ABD TT series He also cut 3+ min off of last years time. Congratulations to Jake Schilling. |

The course has six turns; two rights into a small rise, right downhill, left into another rise, two rights to the long finish straight. The masters 30+ race was first. John Fleckenstein (Team Mack) started things off by drilling it for the first two laps. |

During the ride back we had only a few moments to chat about the route back, the trucks that seem to buzz us with no other vehicles on the road and my upcoming state RR championship. He came by one time and told me to take it easy because I had to race in the state RR tomorrow. I only chuckled thinking that riding with Lance is a whole lot better than thinking about tomorrow's race. As as we went our separate ways at WCTC Lance looked over with a big smile and wished me well in the state RR. That was a great experience!! |
